fun_plugging the DNS-343 (23)
Like its predecessor (DNS-313, DNS-323), the unit is fun_plug-able straight out of the box. You don’t need to modify anything to get the fonz’s fun_plug going. Just download the fun_plug.tgz and fun_plug file and place it on Volume_1. Restart the device and it will be installed! You can check it by telnet-ing to your DNS-343.
Note: Download fun_plug.tgz and fun_plug file from fonz’s website
Hey Andy,
I’ve got an issue ffp’ing the DNS-343 where it doesn’t save the password for ssh access and on reboot I end up being locked out.
full details (just a more step by step description of what I’ve tried) here:
http://forum.nas-tweaks.net/modifications-and-addons/ssh-(access-denied)-and-telnet-andgtlogin-(incorrect-login)-after-reboot/
any help you could give would be greatly appreciated
cheers,
– Klaus
bump..
cliaz and I have the exact same issue. ;_;
dns-343 not happy with the ffp stuff between reboots, and use it too long before rebooting and segfault city..
Victor Tramp,
Probably it is due to the difference in architecture. Perhaps building the fun_plug package for its architecture would solve the problem?
i purchased a dns 343 recently and 4 seagate 1.5 TB drives.
when i plug all the four drives, the system (from web page) shows the four drives in the very-first-time you login. After configuring ‘Individual disks’, it did a lenghty formatting and after reset only two disks were shown (disk 1 and disk 4 disappeared from the list).
from that pointt onwards, no matter which combination i try (two disk, three disk, four disk) with all available RAID configurations, it reboots and only shows either one or two disks and most strangely only one Volume…
under webpage you can see physical disks as two (although 4 connected and OLED shows four of them) but only one Volume (named Volume2) with 1.5tb size.
i tried to google with no luck or pointers on what might be a solution.
its running the latest firmware 1.0.2, and i have burned the firmware after factory reset and tried all above from scratch with exact same behavior.
Do you have any pointers what might be going wrong here?
cheers.
The documented max disk size supported is 1TB. You should also check the supported disks:
ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DNS-343/REV_A/SetupGuides/DNS_HDD_and_USB_Compatibility_List.pdf
I don’t know for sure what it will do with a 1.5TB disk(s), but it seems possible this could be your problem.
BTW,
I have the same problem with fun_plug 0.5 on the DNS-343 as everyone else above.
(DNS-343, 1.02f/w, 4 x 1TB WD10 EACS disks)
Hello,
I just finished the configuration of one DNS-343 with 4 seagate barracuda 1.5T. I am just running scan disc utility now before to put it in a small company as file server and see the performance. I found some issue at the end of the formating process. I have to “shutdown” the unit after finish the formating to get the RAID available. I don’t know why, after the “reboot” process at the end of formating, I was not able to see any unit in the web. Of course I was able to see them in the LED panel as connected. After some test and step by step process I could get my 2 RAID 1 working well. I only “shutdown” the unit after each formating and that was all. Now I am trying to scan unit from my windows machine (the internal tool does not work well).
Performance test in the company will be done next year

With the communities support, the rebooting issue solved
in regards to the segfault…no idea man, hasn’t happened to me *crosses fingers*
I’m running 3 640GB HDDs non-raided
New firmware 1.03b60 with 1.5 TB HDD support released by D-Link France
ftp://ftp.dlink.fr/DNS/DNS-343/Firmware/DLINKEu_DNS343.1.03b60
You’ll find also te release notes here:
ftp://ftp.dlink.fr/DNS/DNS-343/Firmware/DNS_343_ReleaseNote_103.TXT
Hope this helps some of you.
I tried ftp://ftp.dlink.fr/DNS/DNS-343/Firmware/DLINKEu_DNS343.1.03b60 but I get a ’550 CWD failed. No permission’ error message. I will assume that it is because I have a US IP. Has anyone else had issues?
Keith
i also tried to download the 1.03b-update, but unfortunately dlink has deleted the file from its server. probably because it wasn´t stable… they are currently working on the 1.03a-version.
Fun_plug works if you comment out the “rm $FFP_TARBALL” line. There must be something it sets up first time through that gets lost on a reboot. Certainly it’s not optimum to re-install at every boot, but at least it works…
I would like to see the 1.03 ASAP, Im getting pissed about this unstable GUI. I cannot access the FTP menu without crashing:(
Hi im new to the 343. I followed your steps to install the fun plugs files, but when I telnet, theres this error “could not open connection to the host on port 23″ but I saw the unpacked folders in the drive. Is there any ways that I need to correct?
D,
It would be better if you could look at the ffp.log in Volume_1. Check and see if telnet services are started.
Hi all
I just brought a 343 and finish RAID 5 on 4 X 1TB and transfer some files into it and they all works like a gem
But I failed to fun plug it
I downloaded my ffp_0.5 from http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fun-plug/0.5/
“Just download the fun_plug.tgz and fun_plug file and place it on Volume_1. ”
After I tried to reboot and still the 2 files are in my Volume_1 and no additional folders were created and I still can’t telnet to my 343
What should I do?
Thank you
Sorry al
I found my mistake I had downloaded the 2 files to my XP desktop and copy over using window explorer hence the fun_plug become fun_plug.txt
Correct it and now it has unpacked, my bad
Hi all
After hours of struggling after installing the fun plug and can login using an ssh session
But I found I can’t to be able to map my 343 in XP nor Vista
I can’t even assess my previous data that I had earlier transfer to the 343
Any help?
Thanks
NeMeSiS,
MLDonkey takes a fair bit of processing power when it is starting up hence other services may respond slowly. You should be able to map your drives after it has finish starting up.
I can’t get chroot to work on my DNS-343, so I can’t get into Debian on it. That makes me a sad panda.
I am going to be th first to call “bullshit”. I copied the fun_plug.tgz file to \Volume_1 on my DNS-343. I rebooted it, shut down the restarted and guess what? Still a fun_plug.tgz in the root folder and no unpacked ffp folder (like the ones on my two DNS-323 units). I did the exact same process with DNS-323 and it works, but 343 .. nothing.
javaman is really all bullshit when s/he left out a file fun_plug when trying to fun_plug the 343
javaman,
Make sure you also download “fun_plug” file and save it without any extensions. Without it, the installation won’t start.
