ctorrent-1.3.4-dnh3 for DNS-323 (-)

Wish to do bittorrent or torrent on the DNS-323? Previously I have posted setting up debian environment on DNS-323 after which you will run ctorrent (for debian) . The amount of stuffs to be done just to do torrenting on the DNS-323 would put any regular joe off.

To simplify the process of torrenting or running bittorrent on DNS-323. I tried my luck in compiling ctorrent for DNS-323 so that I can run ctorrent without the need of setting up a debian environment. This way, you would just need telnet access to the DNS-323 and some basic knowledge in executing the file and you would be running bittorrent off the NAS! I won’t touch on the tedious process of compiling the ctorrent source into binary suitable for DNS-323. But I would say that it is not exactly a nice and easy process. If you wish to do it, check out the GPL sources at D-Link. You would require a linux system with the appropriate packages (bison flex, gcc-3.4, byacc, g++, make) before you can compile. So if you don’t know what I am talking about, just use the application I have compiled.

ctorrent for Debian on DNS-323 (-)

Like most users out there, I like to make the best out of the NAS! One of the functionalities that I would like to have would be able to run bittorrent on the NAS itself. Just imagine only having a NAS online to download your torrents. This way I can shave some money off the electricity bills. There are already NAS(es) out there that supports bittorrent right out of the box (unlike DNS-323). But how many of them can hold up to 2 sata harddisks, has a metal enclosure for better heat dissipation, or nice blue leds? After toying with the DNS-323, I realised that it is capable of supporting bittorrent protocol and possibly other stuffs.

By refering to the website of CTorrent, you would realise that CTorrent has been discontinued. Sounds pretty sad. But then, there is Enhanced CTorrent. CTorrent is known to be lightweight and quick.

    Required files: ctorrent-1.3.4-dnh3

I have compiled Enhanced CTorrent for use on Debian on DNS-323. So just download it and extract the the file to the following location

    /mnt/HD_a2/etch/usr/bin

Try issuing the follow command in your Debian and see if it works

    sh-3.1# ctorrent -h

Don’t know how to use ctorrent? Check out the Getting Started Guide on the website of CTorrent.

    Have fun torrenting!
