DGS-1008D versus SD2008 (1)
I chose the DGS-1008D after comparing the specifications and looks of both DGS-1008D and SD2008. Why? My purpose is to extend my network but at the same time get all the possible benefits (power savings, unique features, etc)!
Running out of ethernet ports (1)
I am running out of connectivity points on my DIR-655! Well, there are only 4 ethernet ports and they are connected to server, workstation, DNS-323 and DNS-313! My IP camera is still lying around. I do have a 24 port rank mount switch but then it is only fast ethernet and takes up a lot of space.
I am now looking at 8 port gigabit ethernet switches from Linksys and D-Link. Wonder which one would be more worthwhile to spend money on. Going to check out their price from Challenger or CyberActive.
Seems like the gigabit switch from D-Link boasts power savings (Green Ethernet) while Linksys is a normal gigabit switch. Design wise, D-Link’s DGS-1008D looks slightly nicer than Linksys’s SD2008. Must see which one my wallet can afford then. Hope the D-Link one isn’t too expensive!
Something to clarify… (1)
Gosh, this person must be working for D-Link
This is what people think when they see the NAS, network switch and DGL-4300. Like all consumers, I like to make sure that I spent my money on quality stuffs. After reading reviews, I feel that these equipments are good, hence I got it and blogged about it. Perhaps I should stop sharing the applications I have compiled and keep for my own use.
Gosh, this person must be working for Linksys
With the WRT54G in the category listing plus the fact that I got 2 equipment from the WRT54G family and spend time exploring OpenWRT packages on it doesn’t mean that I am working for Linksys.
Gosh, this person must be working for Nokia
I got the N80 and I just wish to share my findings.
WRT54GS (-)

Kismet doesn’t lockup the router

Kismet still stable after 24hrs

Channel 6 is some frequency I should really avoid

Packet Rate
Got a piece of WRT54GS recently. It came with 32mb of ram. 16mb more ram than my current WRT54G! More ram = more stable? Something to be proven. At least, it is more stable for kismet.
New Toy: WRT54G Version 2.2 (-)

Got time then try installing various package on it, first need the samba to be up.
