Updating Nokia N80 to N80 IE – instructions from Nokia (1)

    February 27th, 2007 | Tags: , | Posted in Tech

    Dear Updaters

The Nokia Software Updater is now ready to offer “Internet Edition” software for most standard Nokia N80 users. This software includes Mobile Search, Internet telephony (VoIP), Downloads client and Lifeblog.

Please note that after updating and restoring your own data, the new Internet folder will not be visible because you will have restored the standard N80 screen layout “on top” of the N80IE software. New N80IE applications are not deleted. They are still available and can be found in the My Own folder.

The Nokia N80 Internet Edition software may not be available for all variants. Check to see if an update is available for your own device at
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4305060.

The Internet Edition software version number is 4.0632.0.38.

    Regards,
    The Nokia Software Updater Team

    • Martin Field’s Screen Protector – it is rather thick and can protect against scratches, one of my N80 got a fine cut across the screen after visiting the Nokia Service Centre, just imagine if the screen protector isn’t there! And oh, the back camera lens is protected as well. (available at MobileSquare)
    • SanDisk miniSD card – Well memory cards are manufactured based on different technologies, Single Layer Cell (SLC) and Multi Layer Cell (MLC). In SLC, 1 bit of data is represented by 1 cell. On the other hand, in MLC, 2 or more bits of data get represented by a single cell. I am not saying that SanDisk are based on SLC but then it is based on a more reliable MLC technology than Kingston (my personal experience). Else you can check out those high end series of Transcend and Kingston which is truely on SLC. Advantages of SLC? Lower power consumption, faster read-write, less prone to data corruption, e.t.c …
    • Nokia AD-41 for Music Pleasure – Well it does comes with microphone so that you can answer call in the midst of enjoying music
    • SMS Accelerator Fix from NOKIA – solves the slow sms sending problem. It is recommended by Nokia to install it even if your handphone don’t experience the problem
    • AutoLock – The name gives you an idea of what the program is doing
    • Y-Browser – great for manipulating hidden stuffs

    Getting to enjoy my N80!

Checking emails in campus (cos the whole campus is wireless!), using agile messenger to chat online with friends. Zipping and unzipping attachments. Ah. Maybe I still find N80 interesting with all those functions ba. It crashed on me several times though. Maybe I should take note of the cpu usage. Opera for S60 3rd devices takes up a whole lot of memory + CPU time. Any light-weight browsers for cellphones?

    Nokia N80!

Got my hands on Nokia N80. Taking pictures with it can be quite terrible without the autofocus feature of my previous handphone, K750. But the other features of Symbian actually made me get this phone. Been exploring applications and setting it up for use for the past few days. Configured the mobile to use my wireless lan at home. Added in news feeds from BBC and CNN, Technology, Science/Nature are my favourites!

Watching animes on the mobile is much easier now due a software called SmartMovie from Lonely Cat Games. Another software call Advanced Call Manager is also good. Deciding whether I wanna get the license for Symbian S60 3rd Edition, OS 9.1.

Oh ya, now I check mails more frequently on mobile than on my old phone. Why? Cos it can connect thru wireless. Making it cheaper to check emails. :D
