sitex 2005, don’t waste your time
Went to sitex earlier with Sophia and Serene (after studying). Felt that the sitex is a complete waste of time, no interesting promotions, sales people who don’t know their products. There is alot of food stalls and even a sandal shop in sitex! When I entered the area with food stalls, momentarily I thought I was in Food Fair 2005.
I went there with an intention to get ram module, yes ram for my IBM T43. Namely the customised ram, with part number starting with KTM.
Scouted around, first shop I ask replied me that it was a value ram. So I have it a miss. Went to booth 5N04, ask them if they sell SODIMM. First they was like huh? Then I told them I wanted laptop rams. Then they replied that they have it. I asked them how much does DDR2 533Mhz 512mb cost? They was like huh again. They looked at the displays and couldn’t find the word DDR2 I guess. They quickly passed me a price list. I saw what I wanted and proceeded to ask if it is value ram series. They are like huh again. The boy then later tell me to go to another booth of theirs mentioning that the people there know rams better. Sigh.
Made my way to another booth at 5A25. Made queries there as well, ask if it is value ram, they don’t know. Ask them to show me, they show me a Kingston ram, yeah, but tray version. Doesn’t it means that it is a OEM version? No box, just a tray to hold all the rams. Then I asked for the boxed version and enquired if it is value ram, stating that there are 2 series, one value ram and the other which is made and tested on T43. They never answer, and passed me a few boxes of the 1GB ram, alright, part number starts with KVR (Kingston Value Ram). Damm it, people sell stuffs without knowing their stuffs. Krap. Oh another thing is, he quoted me SGD$99 for the value ram, when it is stated as SGD$88 on the pricelist.
Next I went to ThinkPad booth #1. Asked for ram modules, they mentioned they don’t have the one recommended by Kingston, but 3rd party one. From Twinmos. I was like huh? IBM themselves recommend Kingston rams with that specific part number, yet they only stock up on Twinmos. Nevermind, it is even more expensive than the Kingston one.
Went to booth #2. Asked for IBM T43, 512MB ram. The uncle went to the counter to check and replied me SGD$199. Oh man. Thanks.
Guess going down to Convergent to get the piece of RAM will be cheaper.
Wahaha, the 2 poor girls walked with me from booth to booth. Paisei!
