Excuse me!

“Excuse me” can be expressed in many ways. One scenario of using it would be using it to ask people to give way politely on public transport. By saying “excuse me”, people would know you need to get pass them and they would (normally) shift aside and let you pass. Another scenario would be you expressing dismay. For example, an annoying person who keeps bumping into you on public transport while he/she dance along to his mp3 music without caring who he/she bumps into. In this case, if you were to say “excuse me” in a firmer tone, he/she will notice it and (hopefully) stop bumping into you.

A few days ago I was travelling to the east (of Singapore). Standing all the way at the center of the cabin. I am standing pretty close to the first seat near the entrance/exit of the cabin. Was actually eyeing for a seat so that I can do my CS3214 while travelling. Around City Hall area, some people alighted and the seat directly infront of me was empty. I moved towards the seat (naturally). As I was moving, a middle age lady said in a hostile tone “excuse me!”. First thing struck my mind was that I blocked her way to the exit while making my way to the seat. Hence I took a step away from the seat to allow her to pass. Know what she did? She took the seat instead and immediately closed her eyes and act asleep.

Angry!!
