Bangkok – Day 2
Little did we know that we are suppose to be following GMT+7 instead of GMT+8 in Bangkok so Serene and me ended up waking others up earlier. Haha! Nevermind, wake up earlier = more time to shop around, provided shops are open at 8am (GMT+7)
Woke Ricky up and went to collect our breakfast coupons from the receptionist. Breakfast looks pretty yummy though.
American breakfast and pancakes
The five of us squeezed into a taxi to Baiyoke Hotel to catch the scenary on top of the tall building but we didn’t know it will cost us 250 baht. So we skipped it and shopped around instead. Grabbed a top at one of the shops with Ricky and Ken.
We didn’t realized the street stalls were clearing up! I still thought they were setting up for the day. Oh my! Soon we got bored of the area and hitched a cab down to Mah Boon Krong (MBK) shopping mall. Ah… the air-con feels great! Grabbed a few polo tees down there. Shopped around the top floor and saw Gundams! Ah, must control! Althought it is slightly cheaper but the thought of transporting it back to Singapore deterred me. There are ALOT of handphone shops in MBK! And pirated softwares and games are displayed everywhere. Occasionally, there would be people stopping you to ask you if you want to get the latest games (PSP, Wii, xbox, PC, etc). Grabbed two handphone straps to replace my current one, else Serene will be nagging at my white-turn-gray-or-brown handphone strap. Ricky bought alot alot alot of stuffs at MBK!
Checked out MBK’s food court. Yeap, the vegetarian store is still down there. So vegetarians can go MBK for your meals. We bought crepes to eat! Wow, it is simply yummy again.
Crepes at MBK
Well, for 55 baht it certainly taste good! Made a call to Healthland Spa for reservation for traditional thai massage. What is a trip to Thailand without experiencing their traditional thai massage? You should check out Healthland Spa! It is posh, good and not expensive!
Went over to MK for our lunch. For some reasons, the electricity in the outlet tripped before we could order anything. I guess it is a blessing in disguise because those who have ordered can only stare at their food and not eat it. The waitress directed us to the MK outlet on the 7th floor. Ricky, Ken and Seen Yee went ahead while Serene and me went to shop abit at the Tokyu Departmental Store. Serene bought some stuffs before we went up to MK to meet up with the rest.
We went over to Chinatown after our lunch at MK. It was noon and it was when we experienced the hot weather of Thailand. Bought a few packets of iced milk tea from the roadside stall.
Iced milk tea from roadside stall
We slurped our iced milk tea while continuing to walk to Chinatown under the hot scorching sun. It was kind of a dismay as most of the stuffs are sold in bulk. They are mostly wholesalers and not retailers. Rested our tired feets at one of the air-conditioned coffee outlets (like Starbucks). Sat there for quite sometime before we made our way back to hotel. Well, the day has yet to end. We have got thai massage later on at Healthland Spa.
Had our dinner at A&W. Been sometime since I had A&W. Ordered a fried chicken meal while the rest had burgers (except for Serene). It was a bad choice to order fried chicken, because it only shows how long was their last frying oil changed. 😐
Took a cab down to the Healthland Spa area. Why was it area and not place? Simply because none of us know where exactly is it. I plotted it on my PSP (with MapThis) so we roughly know the road. Explored the area for a while and after asking a security guard, we found the place. We didn’t expect it to be so posh! Free flow of flower-scented drinks. We rested our tired bodies on the sofa couches while sipping the ice drinks. Wah…. feel like falling asleep already. After waiting a while, the lady called out to us and directed us to meet our torturers massuers. They led us to a room and they pointed to clothes on the bed and they left the room. We simply wore those clothes over ours and waited for them to come in. When they came in, they have this “Oh my god” type of look on their face and kept saying “no no no” and told us to change our clothes instead. Haha. Again they left the room while we changed properly this time round.
The thai massage was two hours long. Quite relaxing and itchy at some point of time. Felt so relaxed after the session and I feel that the money was well spent (450 baht for the massage and 100 baht for tips)
Suan Lum Night Market
Went over to Suan Lum Night Market after the massage for some night shopping. Wanted to buy a pair of slippers but they don’t have sizes for my big feet (I am size 11.5 ~ 12). Had some Chang Beer and the waiter/waitress asked if he/she could keep the change (60 baht) as tips. Well, I used he/she because I am unsure of his/her gender. It was a bad idea to drink so late at night (close to 12 am?) as the stalls are closing and they changed our glasses to plastic cups. eeks.
Travelled back to hotel in an unmetered taxi after our short drinking session. It cost us 100 baht! Almost all taxi hagger for price at midnight as there aren’t any other public transport.
Tired day and it will be another long day tomorrow.
