Bangkok – Day 4
It is the last day of our Bangkok trip. Seems like everybody is out of steam after these few days, not only that, we are almost broke too, especially Serene and me. Wonder what’s there to explore today?
Mango sticky rice
Had our breakfasts as usual at the hotel but this time round, we order mango sticky rice! The mango sticky rice taste rather alright other than the not-so-ripe mango. Seems like the locals have a penchant for eating unripe fruits. Went back to our rooms to pack our baggage, managed to catch a bit of the movie “babe” as well.
Went down to the lobby at around 11am and left our baggages with the receptionist while we go and do our very last minute shopping at Platinum Shopping Mall and Pantip! Platinum Shopping Mall is kind of like a shopping haven for ladies? Each level of the shopping mall sells different items – e.g. level 5 for bags, level 4 for accessories, etc. Ken and Seen Yee went “missing” for a while and we took the chance to broadcast their names through the announcement system! Met up with them shortly after the announcement and we continued our journey to Pantip! The computer goods sold there are not exactly cheap when compared to Singapore. We had our lunch at the busy food court.
Our lunch at Pantip
After lunch, we continued to explore the surrounding shopping malls/centres. It seems like there are promotions/advertisement for a particular brand of orange juice and we kept taking free drinks from them. Haha! Did I mention that Platinum Shopping Mall is rather near to our Hotel? The taxi meter remained at 35 baht for our trip from hotel to the mall. Maybe because of this, none of the taxi drivers want to fetch us back to hotel. We ended walking back to our hotel. We walked for maybe half an hour? We get to experience the busy traffic of Bangkok. All of us still made it back to the hotel in one piece, though a bit hot and slightly sweaty from the “stroll”.
The bellboy/belluncle is super helpful, he helped us to flag cab, loaded in our baggages into the boot. After getting into the cab, then I know that Ricky has tipped him before hand. The ride back to the airport is unusually quiet, probably because everybody was tired from the trip and some of them are sleeping. loL
We kind of reached the airport early and it wasn’t the time for check in. Ended spending close to two hours at the sky lounge cafe? Had a few pots of tea – peach, green apple and jasmine. They taste quite bland. It seems like the locals like to drink super sweet fruit juice and super bland coffee and tea.
Soon it was 6.50pm and it is time for us to check in! Hurray! It is time for dinner at Burger King. We went in there and kept looking for Burger King, after searching for a while, we saw an unlighted Burger King sign. Thinking that the sign was damaged, we still continue to walk happily towards it, only to be dismayed by a sign in front of the stall – under renovation. *dot*
Ended having our dinner at the food outlet opposite it. The food was bland and serving size is very small.
Small serving size
We managed to spend all our Thai currency (Baht) at the food outlet with Ken paying for the excess using his credit card. Hurray! We did a little bit of window shopping around the shops down there before we went into our departure gate (D8). Watched a bit of documentary, something like animal olympic? Shrugs. Boarded the plane shortly after and before we know it, we are back in Singapore! Sad. Because I am back in the land of raising GST (VAT) and product prices while payroll shrinks.
Bought a few bottles of liquor at the DFS – Martell Cordon Bleu, Chivas, Red Wine, few cans of Tiger Beer classic.
Thanks dear and buddy for the trip! It’s nice and fun. Too bad Daniel wasn’t there.
