M1 iPad data plan? Think again.

With the Apple iPad releasing in a couple of hours in Singapore. Telcos are dishing out iPad data plans to complement the iPad WiFi + 3G model. Users save the hassle of cutting their regular SIM card into microSIM.

M1 is offering iPad data plans with speed up to 7.2Mbps. A speed I have never obtained during my 2 years of M1 7.2Mbps data plan subscription. Even with 7.2Mbps capable devices, the speed pales in comparison with my old Singtel 2Mbps Mobile on Broadband service! For my case, it seems like M1 is tagging a speed which it is not obtainable, be it in the day or at night, in the west or in the east, in the north or in the south of Singapore. Must as well M1 say Mobile Broadband speed up to 1000Mbps right?

So M1 iPad data plan? Think again. Think carefully before signing on the dotted line.

have been on starhub for quite some time. connection drop rate is pretty high as well. it definitely doesn’t live up to expectations. ida ought to do better audit/review. sigh.

Agreed. I simply gave up on M1 mobile broadband. Waiting for the day when I can terminate it. Will try trimming my SIM card to micro SIM size for iPad (if I can get hold of one soon). If it doesn’t work, it’s no big deal. Stopped using M1 mobile broadband many months ago.

    wenwei, Zul,

Yeah! Somebody should check the speeds claimed by the telcos! I rang the helpdesk once cos I suspect mine SIM card was old hence the not-up-to-standard speed (who knows?). I had my SIM card like since 2004? God knows the technology then. My SIM card can store 200 contacts while my mum’s can store up to a 1000. zZzzZ

I have both 1Mbps of M1 and Singtel.

M1 Unlimited= bad to worst speed most of the time, they throttle certain websites. useless for torrent.

Singtel 30GB plan = not fast and not slow. torrent speed is acceptable.
