Samsung Galaxy SII (S2)

Don't be fooled by the lightness of the Galaxy SII, it is a powerful phone!

Not wanting to get a Apple iPhone 4S, Serene got the Samsung Galaxy SII instead. The Samsung Galaxy SII is available in Black, White and Pink.

Some specifications of the Galaxy SII:

  • CPU – Dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A9
  • RAM – 1GB
  • Storage – 16GB/32GB internal storage. Expandable via microSD
  • Display – Super AMOLED Plus, 16M colors with Gorilla Glass
  • Camera – 8 MP with LED flash
  • OS – Android v2.3 (Gingerbread) with planned upgrade to v4.0
  • Weight – 116g

After using the Samsung Galaxy SII for some days, we noticed that the Super AMOLED Plus display is consuming quite a fair bit of the battery. The battery will easily last though a regular work day on normal settings but will need some charging if you decide to party through the Friday night after work. To help with this, you can turn on power saving mode,  tune down the screen brightness and diligently killing off background tasks. All these should help in giving you extra standby time for the Samsung Galaxy SII.

For those who are looking at rooting the phone, it can be done easily, check out this post on rooting the Samsung Galaxy SII. After rooting, you can squeeze out more battery life by limiting the CPU speed (SetCPU) and removing unnecessary applications (via Titanium Backup).
