Update on 18th October 2012
Finally an Android non camera smartphone – Huawei U8860 Honor! The Huawei U8860 Honor (non camera) is now selling locally (in Singapore)! This phone certainly outperform my old Nokia E51 (non cam) and HTC Touch 2 (non camera)! Response is snappy and screen is sensitive to touches. However, don’t expect the Huawei U8860 to perform as well as the Samsung Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3 or Galaxy Note! Cos these three phones have higher technical specifications than the Huawei U8860.

The Huawei U8860 Honor Package
The Huawei U8860 Honor non-camera arrived in this box. Simple and not too shabby looking. You slide the top cover of the box off like the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy series. You will find the following accessories arranged neatly inside.
Packaged nicely in the box are: Huawei U8860 Honor (non camera), USB charger, microUSB cable, earpiece, battery, manual and warranty card. Of course, these are wrapped in plastics (which I have taken out prior to taking this picture).
The phone – Huawei U8860 Honor non camera
The Huawei U8860 Honor has the right size and weight that sits nicely in my palm and easily pocketable.
In terms of controls, you will find the volume controls on the left, microUSB data & charging port at the bottom, power and earphone jack at the top. The right side of the phone is free of any controls. I kind of miss the power button on the right (like the Samsung Galaxy S2 or Samsung Galaxy Note).
The textured battery cover is a nice touch, otherwise, the entire phone will be a fingerprint magnet.
On the textured battery cover, you will find the Huawei and Google logo. For some reason, this battery cover is very difficult to remove. I almost broke my fingernails when trying to pry it off to insert my SIM card. One of these days, the battery cover is going to break.
The Android Operating System
The Huawei U8860 Honor (non camera) runs on Android. Currently, it is on 2.3.6 Gingerbread and
Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) is coming to it Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) is available. The OS comes with a customized Huawei Launcher that gives it an entirely different layout and appearance.
The Huawei U8860 Honor can also be flashed to third party firmwares/ROMs like CyanogenMod 10 and Shendu OS. Check out the Huawei Honor U8860 – Shendu ROM Flashing Guide.
Well, the Huawei U8860 Honor is a capable device (when compared to other non camera smartphones in the Singapore market). The brand may not be that popular as phone manufacturer like Samsung, Apple or Blackberry but the Huawei U8860 Honor (non camera) is pretty decent. The built does not feels cheap and its performance is reasonable, probably due to the 1.4GHz CPU and 512MB RAM.
If you got tired of Windows Mobile 6.5 (HTC Snap, HTC Touch 2) or Blackberry (BB9780, BB9930), you can consider the Huawei U8860 Honor (non camera) for it is running one of the popular platform (Android) and its decent specifications runs everything quite smoothly. Don’t expect it to render 1080p videos but 720p should do fine. I personally think that it is currently one of the best non camera smartphone.
Some accessories to go with it
Happen to come across an affordable hard case cover + LCD screen protector + car charger for the Huawei Honor. If you don’t mind waiting for the shipping. Get it. 🙂
