Keeping curtain flaps closed with neodymium magnets

Keeping curtain flaps closed with neodymium magnets

I think most of us would have the problem of keeping the two curtain flaps closed without a gap in the middle. Some would use one of the flap’s curtain hook to latch on to the ring of the opposite flap’s track glider. This essentially keeps both curtain flaps close to each other, closing the gap as a result. Do you know you can use neodymium magnets too?

The problem

Sometimes, it is easier said than done as the curtain track could be mounted on a tall place which you cannot reach. It could be quite tiring if you need to hook and unhook it when ever you need to close or open the curtain (as seen in the lower left picture above).

The solution

As my track glider’s rings are made of ferrous material (simply means attracted by magnet), I decided to use neodymium magnet to attract both track glides together. I inserted two tiny neodymium magnets into one of the track glide’s ring (the picture in the middle above) and let it work its magic.

The result

Easy to close (and open) curtain flaps. When both curtain flaps are near each other (probably 5mm distance), the neodymium magnet will attract the opposite one and keep the two curtain flaps closed. To open, simply glide the  two flaps apart and the neodymium magnet would release its “grip” on the opposite flap.
