Photographic Solutions Sensor Swabs Pre-moistened with Eclipse cleaning solution

Recently, I bought the Photographic Solution Sensor Swab to clean my Canon 60D’s sensor after seeing shadow on the pictures taken during the recent Singapore Airshow 2016. Initially I thought that the lens were dirty until I inspected the sensor. Just imagine the look on my face when I discovered that there is a stubborn stain on the sensor and it cast shadows onto the images. The shadows become more apparent as  the aperture becomes smaller.

The stain casted a shadow the images. Noticed the shadow/dot in the blue sky near the top left hand corner?

I tried blasting the sensor with clean air and it didn’t clear it and I am left with the final method of physically cleaning it using static brush and wet clean using sensor swab.

I did some research and bought the Photographic Solution Sensor Swab for this job. The sensor swab are pre-moistened with Eclipse sensor cleaning solution. The cleaning solution is fast drying and do not leave stains after it dries. This is great as I don’t want to risk water stains on the sensor.

The steps are straight-forward.

  1. Lock the camera’s mirror up to expose the sensor.
  2. Tilt the camera so that the chamber opening faces the ground and use air blast or brush to ensure that the chamber and sensor are clean.
  3. Place the camera on a flat surface with chamber facing upwards.
  4. Remove the sensor swab from its packaging.
  5. Insert the swab into the chamber and make contact with the sensor.
  6. Apply firm pressure and smoothly swab it across the sensor and back without lifting the sensor.
  7. Release the mirror and test.

The whole process took me less than two minutes and the image quality are perfect one again!

Do check out the Photographic Solution Sensor Swab if you need some sensor cleaning too. The pre-moistened swab is a plus as I don’t have to worry about over or under moisting the swab. Too little results in insufficient cleaning while over moisting risks getting the sensor solution onto the electronics within the chamber.
