I bought a pair of wired active noise cancelling earphones (Audio-Technica ATH-ANC23) awhile back and soon found the need for a wireless solution. Instead of getting a new pair of earphones, the Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver seems to be the perfect solution to unchain my earphones from my Bluetooth capable smartphone and tablets. I bought it off ezbuy prime for S$22.71.
Why is the Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver perfect in my opinion? Well, it is reasonably small (in size) and packed with rather up-to-date technology for its price point.

The Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver
The package comes with the following:
- Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver
- 3.5mm audio cable
- User manual
Do note that the micro USB charging cable is not included.
The Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver is only available in white (color). It’s body is mainly glossy plastic except for the metal clip.
On the front face is the multi-functional button for music and call controls. Depending on whether is it a short or long press, you can play, pause and even change music tracks.
Near the bottom of the receiver is an indicator light that shows its status (i.e. charging, powered on, Bluetooth pairing, etc.).
The Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver does not have volume controls so you will not be able to control the volume of music streaming from your smartphone.
For Apple users, you might be disappointed that it is not Apple MFI certified. MFI earphones, connected to it, will also likely lose its music and call control capabilities.
On both ends of the Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver are the 3.5mm audio port and micro-USB charging port.
Using the Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver
Pairing it with my OnePlus 3
The first step (after charging it) is to pair it with my OnePlus 3. The pairing process is pretty straightforward.
- With the Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver powered off, press and hold the button for 5 seconds to turn it on and release it when the LED flashes blue and red rapidly. This puts it into Bluetooth discoverable mode.
The LED indicator on the Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver should be flashing.
- On the phone, connect to the Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver named “Mi Bluetooth Audio Receiver“.
- Should it request for pairing PIN, enter “0000” (without the quotes).
- The pairing should be successful.
To pair it with a second device, simply hold the button for 3 seconds while the Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver is powered on.
To forget all Bluetooth pairings, consecutively press the button 5 times.

|Bluetooth pairing|| With the audio receiver powered off, press and hold for 5 seconds. The LED indicator would flash red and blue consecutively.|
To pair with the second device, press and hold for 3 seconds.
|Forget Bluetooth pairings||Rapidly press 5 times.|
Using it with ATH-ANC23
I just have to plug my Audio-Technica ATH-ANC23 Active Noise Cancelling earphones into the 3.5mm audio jack of the Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver.
The music will then stream wirelessly to my active noise cancelling earphones. Gone are the days of getting entangled in its cable when taking my phone in and out of my pocket.
The Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver does not support aptX. If you do not know what is aptX then it probably will not bother you.
I use my active noise cancelling earphones regularly while commuting and at work to cut off (or reduce) noise from vehicles, commuters and discussions from co-workers.
In terms of audio performance, I would say I did not notice any differences in audio quality. This is probably because the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC23 is not an audiophile’s choice of earphones to start with.
However, in terms of music listening experience, it definitely improved! In the past, I would be rudely reminded by the ear buds popping out of my ears or the crashing of the phone onto the carpeted floor when I stand up for a glass of water. Now the music just stops and reconnects when I get near the desk.
So is the Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio Receiver a good purchase? Yes, definitely. Where else can you get a sleek looking Bluetooth audio receiver for S$23 backed by a reasonably reputable brand?
My complain? It would be better if it comes with aptX for the same price and that would be the ultimate perfect Bluetooth audio receiver at this price point.
