Huion Inspiroy H640P Portable Drawing Tablet

The Huion Inspiroy H640P is an affordable portable graphics drawing tablet that offers a decent drawing or doodling experience. Being small and compact, it is easy to bring around. Caveat: This is my first time drawing on a tablet and I don’t really draw since 12 years old. I had always wanted a drawing tablet to doodle on thus I searched around for an affordable one and I found one from Huion instead of the usual Wacom. I bought the Huion Inspiroy H640P from Amazon for S$48.74.

Unboxing the Inspiroy H640P

  3. Pen holder with extra nibs
  4. MicroUSB power+data cable

Taking a closer look

The Inspiroy H640P tablet measures 260 x 147.7 x 8 mm with an active drawing area of 160 x 100 mm. On the left of the tablet are six programmable quick keys. On the sides on the left and right edges are the power connector (micro USB) and quick keys lock respectively.

As the digital pen is battery-free, the H960P tablet uses electromagnetic resonance and is able to detect (or sense) the pen within 10mm of the active surface.

The battery-free digital pen (PW100) weighs around 16g. It feels balanced in my hand without any noticeable weight to the front or back of the pen which made handling a joy. There are two programmable buttons on the pen grip area.

It is capable of differentiating 8,192 levels of pressure. This might be important for budding digital artists.

Drawing (or doodling) with the Huion Inspiroy H640P

I tried drawing using Autodesk SketchBook (free) on my macOS. Getting the entire setup working is surprisingly easy, I connected the Huion H640P, launched Autodesk SketchBook and everything just worked.

After 30 minutes, a bear appeared on my screen. I hope it looks decent. Yes, I need more practice with drawing. The drawing experience feels like drawing on paper. The digital pen “scratches” the tablet’s surface like how a pencil does. Don’t worry, the tablet’s surface is still pristine.

Conclusion

If you are looking for an affordable tablet for drawing or white-boarding during conference calls while working from home (WFH), the Huion Inspiroy H640P drawing tablet will definitely hit the mark. Not only that, it is portable and easy to set up. Lastly, it works with Microsoft Windows, macOS and Android.
